Canon William Ahern was born in Tracton Parish. After his ordination to the priesthood he served in Savannah in the USA. In 1963 he was recalled to Cork and appointed as Chaplain to Bandon Convent. In 1965 he was transferred as curate in Newcestown Parish, from there to Courceys in 1969 and to Ballincollig in 1972. He spend nine years there before moving to Ballyphehane in 1981. In 1991 he was appointed Parish Priest of Kilbrittain where he served until his death on the 27th June, 2000. He was appointed Canon of the Cathedral Chapter in June 1998. He is buried in Kilbrittain Church grounds.
We also remember fondly two other people who died since Canon Ahern. Mary Bradley who was appointed Sacristan by Canon Ahern after her brother Paddy died and who continued to serve faithfully until her death in 2005. We also remember Justin Kearney who was so well known by people in Kilbrittain and much farther afield.
